A lawsuit was filed against Burak Alan, who killed the cat named "Cezve"

The incident occurred on August 1, 2025, when Burak Alan, who was working as a painter in a housing estate on Abdülhamid Han Street in Başakşehir Başak Neighborhood, Istanbul, severely beat and killed the cat named “Cezve” belonging to Serpil Daşçı Pilavcı.
"I SAW THE CAT AS A SORRY ENEMY"
Burak Alan, who was detained, stated in his statement that he had been working at the same site for 10 days. On the day of the incident, when he went out to buy supplies, he saw the cat, which he had previously claimed to have petted. Alan claimed the cat attacked him when he tried to pick it up, throwing it away reflexively and then kicking it in anger. Alan stated that he viewed the cat as "a mortal enemy" at the time of the incident and claimed he was unaware of what he was doing.
Based on the collected evidence, the suspect's statement, and security camera footage, the prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit against Burak Alan for "intentional killing of a pet or domestic animal."
In the indictment, it was requested that the suspect had a previous criminal record and therefore the sentence should be executed in a manner specific to repeat offenders and that he should also be deprived of certain rights.
According to information obtained by an ANKA News Agency reporter, defendant Alan remains in custody. He will appear before the Küçükçekmece Criminal Court of First Instance on October 6th.
"WE REPEAT OUR DEMAND FOR THE INCREASE OF PENALTIES UNHEARD OF IN EROS"
Hafize Hilal Koçak, the lawyer of Pilavcı, the owner of the Cezve, told ANKA News Agency:
The defendant is still in custody, and we expect his trial to be held in custody for the entirety of his sentence. Our primary wish is for the defendant in this case to be sentenced to the maximum sentence, without a single day's reduction. However, even the maximum sentence is so low that it doesn't have a deterrent effect. Therefore, we hope that Cezve will set a precedent and reiterate our demand for increased sentences, which were unheard of in Eros.
